Sixty-one pieces were re-authored as material definitions rather than photographs. The house’s own colourists signed off each one against a physical swatch under three lighting conditions, which took longer than building the renderer.
Returns fell by three quarters. The house attributes it to customers seeing the drape before ordering rather than after.
The challenge
A house whose entire proposition is the hand of the fabric, selling through a channel where nobody can touch anything. Photography flattens silk into a pink rectangle; the qualities that justify the price are exactly the ones a camera loses.
The approach
The garment is rendered, not photographed, with an anisotropic sheen that runs along the weave rather than around the light. That single decision is what separates satin from plastic on a screen. Pointer movement rakes the light across the drape, and the highlight travels the way it does in a fitting room.
